1st Day: Ouarzazate – Erg Chegaga dunes
Departure in the morning at 08:30 from your riad or hotel, and you venture south on your 2-day desert trip from Ouarzazate to Erg Chegaga. You travel over the Anti-Atlas Mountains as far as Agdz, a oasis town well-known for the variety of its palm dates. As you start to descend the Tizi-n-Tinfifite pass (1660m), you will be amazed by the splendid views of the extensive green oases and the innumerable palm trees, all indicating the beginning of the Dra’a Valley.
After a visit to Kasbah Tamnougalte, you travel north via the Dra’a Valley’s unlimited palm trees and green oases and along the ancient Caravans Road as far as Zagora, the last town before the Sahara Desert and the venue for lunch. Here, you can visit a local green pottery co-operative and an old Quranic library.
Then, you continue further south as far as M’hamid, the end of the paved road and the gate to the mighty Sahara Desert. You continue to Erg Chegaga dunes with about 65km of off-road driving through the varying features of the Sahara; ‘erg’ (dunes), ‘hammada’ (stony desert) and oases.
At the campsite, you check in to your tent and enjoy a relaxing glass of tea and Moroccan biscuits. Then, you take a camel ride to the summit of the Erg Chegaga dunes (300 m) to enjoy the sunset. These dunes are far away from civilization, and the silence and the expanse of the sand are overwhelming.
Back at the camp, dinner is served under the Sahara starlit sky, followed by an evening of nomad music and drumming around a campfire. You spend the night in your tent, equipped with a private toilet & shower, king-sized bed, mattresses, sheets, pillows, blankets & carpets, lamps and beautiful Moroccan furnishings, all tastefully arranged to enhance your stay.

We booked through GetYourGuide and had a great time going around Bahia Palace, Saadian Tombs, the Medina and the Souks. Our guide, Yassine, was friendly and informative and made us feel at ease straight away. The guided tour was excellent value for money and we’re so glad that we booked! My son is only 7, but he took time to talk to him about things he would like while also making sure we leaned all about the culture of Morocco. It’s obvious he loves his country and was a very kind person. We were grateful to have his help navigating the souks as we were just taking it all in rather than wanting to spend money. A truly memorable day and we are so glad we picked this tour. I’m sure our son will talk about this for years ilceocom19/04/2025Verified Nice walk on Marra Very nice and pleasant excursion in Marrakesh. Half a day through the streets, markets, and some palaces and squares. Our guide, Hassan, was excellent company and very helpful. Always patient and available. He stayed with us beyond the expected time without asking for anything in return. Georg28/03/2025Verified Average without enthusiasm The tour was fine so far, even the guide had good knowledge of the Bahia Palace and Saadic Tomb. The organization itself was a bit unhappy, due to the opening hours during Ramadan the tour was scheduled too late and we had to rush through the sights. There was not much time left and we did not accompany the planned Medina/Souk visit anymore. Greta P08/03/2025Verified The real Marocan experience ❤️🔥👳🏾♀️ The guide,Yassine, is formidable.
