Tinfou Dunes desert day trip from Ouarzazate – itinerary:
This desert day trip from Ouarzazate begins with a morning departure from your hotel in an air-conditioned car; a 4×4 vehicle or a deluxe van. The itinerary takes you south over the Anti-Atlas Mountains as far as Agdz, a oasis town well-known for the variety of its palm dates.
As you descend the Tizi-n-Tinfifite pass (1660m), you will be amazed by the splendid views of the extensive green oases and the innumerable palm trees all indicating the beginning of the Dra’a Valley.
After a break for a glass of tea or morning coffee, we drive off-road, which offers better views of the green oases and unlimited palm trees, with ancient Kasbahs, idyllically standing among the palm trees and by both sides of the river. Then, there is time to visit Kasbah Tamnougalt, the oldest and the largest kasbah in the Dra’a Valley. Parts of the Kasbah are still inhabited while others are in ruins. From here, we continue to Zagora, the largest oasis in the Dra’a Valley.
Once in the Tinfou Dunes, you will be welcomed by a glass of traditional tea and Moroccan biscuits, followed by a much-anticipated camel ride and sandboarding (if desired). Then, you will have lunch and relax in a nomad tent to get a glimpse of the nomadic life in the Sahara Desert.
On the way back to Ouarzazate, you will visit the local pottery co-operatives in Tamgroute village which produce all the green glaze pottery products that you may have seen all over the south and in Marrakech as well. It is interesting to visit these workshops to learn how local clay is worked into products in a manner unique to this region. Then, you can also visit an ancient Quranic Library with a fascinating display of exquisite hand-written Arabic texts.
Afterwards, you travel along the ancient caravan route which was used to ship goods from Timbuktu in Sub-Saharan Africa to Marrakech as far as Agdz. Along the road, there will stop at panoramic viewpoints to take photos and learn about Berber life in the south. We arrive back in Ouarzazate by the end of the afternoon. Your driver will transfer you to your hotel which brings your desert day trip from Ouarzazate to an end.

Good pace, relaxed approach and gave us a very enjoyable trip.Posted on Tripadvisor english_gent06907/07/2026Verified Informative but way too long We did the 4 hour tour in July, it started at 10am and already by the time it started it was 37c. We went to the palace first and by the time we left it was 44c. I could see other members of the tour really struggling with the heat but the tour guide still had us stood in direct sunlight for 10 minutes at a time while he explained things. As the tour drew to a close only half the starting party was left. We also went when my wife started to feel sick. Please keep this in mind if you plan to do this during the hottest times of the year.Posted on Tripadvisor antoine e02/07/2026Verified Superbe visites et guide au top Merci Mohammed pour cette visite très intéressante des différents coins de Marrakech !
