Ouarzazate to Merzouga desert tour 2 days – itinerary:
1st day: Ouarzazate – Merzouga:
After breakfast, you set out our your 2-day desert tour from Ouarzazate to Merzouga as your driver picks you up at 08:30 from your riad. You follow the route of a thousand Kasbahs to Skoura Oasis. Here, you will stop to visit Kasbah Amridhil, which used to be depicted in the old 50 dirham banknote. The kasbah has been beautifully restored and is well worth visiting; constructed entirely of adobe, an excellent building material that keeps room temperature cool in the summer and warm in the winter due to the thickness of the walls.
From here, you travel through the beautiful Valley of the Roses as far as Kel’aa M’gouna. Here, you can visit a local cooperative producing cosmetic articles from the valley’s abundant roses. These organic products are highly valued. There is no obligation to buy or stop here!
Having arrived in the Dades Valley, you have lunch in one of the nearby restaurants. In the afternoon, you continue your adventure southeast. In Toudgha Gorges, there are plenty of opportunities to walk alongside the river through the gardens or up the road on the other side of the gorges. Between Tinjdad and Erfoud, you can stop to go down into “Khettara,” a fascinating underground water channel system deep below the earth, always cool and preventing the evaporation of water.
Next, you continue your desert trip alongside the Ziz Valley, which is very remarkable for its huge groves and fortified kasbahs standing tall among the palm trees. In Erfoud itself, you can stop at a local workshop to see the workings of thousands of fossils made into all sorts of artefacts. From here, we continue driving east as far as Merzouga, where sand dunes indicate the start of the mighty Sahara Desert.
At the campsite, you check into your tent and enjoy a relaxing glass of tea and Moroccan biscuits. Then, you take a camel ride up to the summit of the Erg Chebbi dunes (250 m). You will enjoy the sunset from the top of the dunes!
Back at the camp, dinner is served, followed by an evening of nomad music and drumming around a campfire. You spend the night in your tent, equipped with a private toilet & shower, king-sized beds, mattresses, sheets, pillows, blankets & carpets, lamps and beautiful Moroccan furnishings, all tastefully arranged to enhance your stay.
2nd day: Merzouga – Ouarzazate:
If you wake up early enough, you can watch the spectacle of the sunrise, when the colour of the dunes and the play of shadows are an incredible sight. You will also have some time to wander the dunes and experience the tranquillity of this magical setting.
After breakfast, the drive back east to Marrakech takes us along the length of the Saghro Mountains via the villages of Rissani, Alnif, Tazarine (featured in the film ‘Babel’), and then N’Qob just in time for lunch.
After a visit to Kasbah Tamnougalte, you travel north via the Dra’a Valley’s unlimited palm trees and green oases along the ancient Caravans road. We rejoin the paved road in Agdez and reach Ouarzazate, crossing the Anti-Atlas Mountains and the pass of Tizi-n-Tinfifite (1660m).
You arrive back in Ouarzazate by the end of the afternoon. Your driver will transfer you to your hotel bringing your 2-day desert tour from Ouarzazate to Merzouga to an end.

Posted on FloordM03/03/2026Verified 10 out of 10! Very good and informative tour, our guide Mustapha was very nice, funny, and knowledgeable. We were with our 5 year old daughter, its a bit of a walk, but she enjoyed it as well. It will be busy whenever you go. There are toilets inside the complex. Much architecture to be admired, better to read up before you go as it is so busy during the day that you need to know what you are looking at.Posted on Satinder M22/02/2026Verified As we experienced this tour its not worth the money The guide spoke good English & was very knowledgeable. We didn't feel the tour was worth the money because the guide did not show us the sooks properly. He didn't take us to the speciality areas such as spice or leather or jewellery. He spend far too much time at the Bahia Palace and gave us very long, very repetitive talks in every room which was very boring. He spent very little time at the tombs because he didn't take us to the King's room which had a very long line. Our suggestion would be to go to the tombs first.Posted on Michele W20/02/2026Verified Super après-midi ! Je recommande vivement !Posted on Petra S05/02/2026Verified Amazing day discovering the heart of Marrakech Excellent city tour in Marrakech! Communication in advance was excellent — the agency Moments in Morocco informed us via WhatsApp with all important details, and we received the guide’s personal contact information the day before. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the country, culture, and local people, with great English. He brought us closer to local traditions and daily life, was very flexible, and picked us up directly at our riad. A perfectly organized personal tour which we‘d highly recommend!Posted on Beverley J05/02/2026Verified Good experience The tour guide was fun to spend time with and knowledgeable. The walk and tour were interesting and worth it for the experience.Posted on Lili6205/02/2026Verified Overall disappointing We were disappointed in this tour in so far as it advertised a visit of the souk ( that didn't happen) and the tour ended half an hour early. It was very quick walking so difficult to take photos and we didn't like the fact the offer to stop for a tea was in fact an xcuse to take us to a herb shop where we all got taken for a ride and ended up paying more than we expected to for the items (the shopkeeper filled bags to the brim with ridiculous amounts). We booked though Get Your Guide thinking we would be avoiding this kind of practice - obviously not and I guess the guide gets a backhander from the shop afterwards. The guide appeared extremely knowledgeable but no-one in the party knew anything about Moroccan history - when we did ask him to translate something in Arabic, he couldn't.Tripadvisor rating score: 4.9 of 5, based on 219 reviews
