Tinfou Dunes desert day trip from Ouarzazate – itinerary:
This desert day trip from Ouarzazate begins with a morning departure from your hotel in an air-conditioned car; a 4×4 vehicle or a deluxe van. The itinerary takes you south over the Anti-Atlas Mountains as far as Agdz, a oasis town well-known for the variety of its palm dates.
As you descend the Tizi-n-Tinfifite pass (1660m), you will be amazed by the splendid views of the extensive green oases and the innumerable palm trees all indicating the beginning of the Dra’a Valley.
After a break for a glass of tea or morning coffee, we drive off-road, which offers better views of the green oases and unlimited palm trees, with ancient Kasbahs, idyllically standing among the palm trees and by both sides of the river. Then, there is time to visit Kasbah Tamnougalt, the oldest and the largest kasbah in the Dra’a Valley. Parts of the Kasbah are still inhabited while others are in ruins. From here, we continue to Zagora, the largest oasis in the Dra’a Valley.
Once in the Tinfou Dunes, you will be welcomed by a glass of traditional tea and Moroccan biscuits, followed by a much-anticipated camel ride and sandboarding (if desired). Then, you will have lunch and relax in a nomad tent to get a glimpse of the nomadic life in the Sahara Desert.
On the way back to Ouarzazate, you will visit the local pottery co-operatives in Tamgroute village which produce all the green glaze pottery products that you may have seen all over the south and in Marrakech as well. It is interesting to visit these workshops to learn how local clay is worked into products in a manner unique to this region. Then, you can also visit an ancient Quranic Library with a fascinating display of exquisite hand-written Arabic texts.
Afterwards, you travel along the ancient caravan route which was used to ship goods from Timbuktu in Sub-Saharan Africa to Marrakech as far as Agdz. Along the road, there will stop at panoramic viewpoints to take photos and learn about Berber life in the south. We arrive back in Ouarzazate by the end of the afternoon. Your driver will transfer you to your hotel which brings your desert day trip from Ouarzazate to an end.

Jess P15/05/2025Verified Definitely worth booking!! What an amazing day, would highly recommend to anyone wanting to explore Marrakech whilst learning more about the history and culture of the city. We booked through GetYourGuide and had a great time going around Bahia Palace, Saadian Tombs, the Medina and the Souks. Our guide, Yassine, was friendly and informative and made us feel at ease straight away. The guided tour was excellent value for money and we’re so glad that we booked! Journey0538514030813/05/2025Verified Adventure in Marrakech! Our guide was super knowledgeable and friendly, walking us through the stunning Bahia Palace, and the vibrant chaos of the souks. We had a great time in Marrakech. gcoopernyc19/04/2025Verified Memorable tour and very kind, knowledgeable guide This was such a good introduction to Marrakech and Hamid was a brilliant and kind guide. My son is only 7, but he took time to talk to him about things he would like while also making sure we leaned all about the culture of Morocco. It’s obvious he loves his country and was a very kind person. We were grateful to have his help navigating the souks as we were just taking it all in rather than wanting to spend money. A truly memorable day and we are so glad we picked this tour. I’m sure our son will talk about this for years ilceocom19/04/2025Verified Nice walk on Marra Very nice and pleasant excursion in Marrakesh. Half a day through the streets, markets, and some palaces and squares. Our guide, Hassan, was excellent company and very helpful. Always patient and available. He stayed with us beyond the expected time without asking for anything in return. Georg28/03/2025Verified Average without enthusiasm The tour was fine so far, even the guide had good knowledge of the Bahia Palace and Saadic Tomb. The organization itself was a bit unhappy, due to the opening hours during Ramadan the tour was scheduled too late and we had to rush through the sights. There was not much time left and we did not accompany the planned Medina/Souk visit anymore. Greta P08/03/2025Verified The real Marocan experience ❤️🔥👳🏾♀️ The guide,Yassine, is formidable. He takes us in the real Marocan customs. The Pharmacy experience with argan oil and and the souk were Amazing. Thank for all. Super!! Tony G23/02/2025Verified A great introduction to Marrakesh.
